Free screen readers

Our website is compatible with screen-reading software. A screen reader transmits whatever text is displayed on the computer screen into a form that a blind or visually impaired user can process (usually tactile, auditory or a combination of both).

Following is a list of screen readers that you can download for free:

Large-print collection

Bathurst Library offers an extensive collection of large-print books that are often easier for people with low vision to read. While most adult books are set in 10-12 point type, large-print books are commonly available in 16-18 point type.

We stock large-print books in general fiction, romance, mystery, westerns and non-fiction. Ask our friendly staff to direct your to our large-print section, or check out our online catalogue.

Audio books

Audio (talking) books are useful for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or any other reason that prevents them from engaging with text-based reading material. We hold an extensive collection of audio books on both compact or MP3 discs, for both adults and children. There are also more than 7000 audio books in our digital library collection.
