Children's collection
Bathurst Library knows literacy starts early. Our Children's collection is designed to help kids build the skills they need before and during primary school, while encouraging families to share the joy of reading together.

Young adult fiction
Our Teen section offers young adult fiction aimed at members aged 12 years and over.
Popular subgenres include dystopian YA (The Hunger Games), fantasy (Sarah J. Maas), and contemporary romance titles (Adam Silvera).

Large-print books
Bathurst Library offers an extensive collection of large-print books that are often easier for people with low vision to read. While most adult books are set in 10-12 point type, large-print books are commonly available in 16-18 point type.
Our large-print collection is arranged in the following genres:

- non-fiction.
Dyslexia-friendly books
Dyslexia-friendly books are specially designed to make reading easier for people with dyslexia. They use clear layouts, larger spacing, tinted or cream-coloured pages, and fonts that reduce letter confusion. Sentences are shorter, chapters are well-spaced, and illustrations or visual cues are often included to support understanding.
These books aren’t just for children — many are written for teens and adults too, so that everyone can enjoy reading with more confidence.
At Bathurst library, our dyslexia-friendly collection offers engaging stories in an accessible format to help make reading a positive experience for all.

Members can borrow up to 10 CDs and 10 DVDs at a time — perfect for filling your week with entertainment.

Discover our innovative collection designed for people with dementia and their carers
It features a range of materials including photo boards, puzzles, games, DVDs and books that provide stimulation, engagement and entertainment. These materials help people living with dementia find pleasure and relaxation by offering valuable and varied mental stimulus.

You may generally borrow up to 50 items for 28 days (some items - such as games, DVDs, CDs, audio books and kits - will have different lending limits).
If you visit the library you can also access the following collections, which are for in-library use only:
- Newspapers
- Reference collection - encyclopedias, dictionaries, street directories, atlases, directories etc
- Local History
- Family History
You may generally borrow up to 50 items for 28 days (some items - such as games, DVDs, CDs, audio books and kits - will have different lending limits).
If items are not overdue or reserved by another patron they may be reborrowed for another 28 day period, either in person, online or by telephone (02) 6333 6281. Maximum of 2 renewals per item.
Items not immediately available may be reserved for free. Up to 12 items may be reserved at any one time.
Books not held by Bathurst Library may be suggested for purchase or obtained from another library service by Inter-Library Loan for a fee.
Please return any overdue items to the library as soon as possible.
If you are unable to return the item, or if the item is lost or damaged, please contact us immediately.
Items must be returned on or before the due date - an after-hours returns chute is located outside the library for returning items when the library is closed.
We will issue you with an invoice for the replacement cost of any lost or badly damaged items.

Your borrowing rights will be suspended when you have items that are overdue and these rights will only be reinstated when the item(s) are returned and any fines due are paid.
If we haven't got it and you really need it, you can make a request!
Simply fill out a request form at the front desk (or ask staff to do this for you) or submit an online request (you will be prompted to log in first).
This service is only available to Bathurst Library members. Charles Sturt University Library members are asked to use their campus library for loans that are for research purposes.
In many cases, if the item meets our Collection Development Policy we will attempt to purchase it (please note this can take several weeks). However, if it doesn't or is difficult to source (particularly older titles) we will investigate if it can be obtained from another NSW public library via Inter-Library Loan (if you have agreed to that option on our form - fees apply).
If we order the item we will reserve it for you and you will be notified when it becomes available via your normal notification method. If we obtain an Inter-Library loan we will contact you when it arrives (so please make sure these details are up to date). If we cannot obtain the item you will be notified as soon as possible.
Please note some items may be unavailable for Inter-Library loan. Items such as journal or newspaper articles require extra information from you (such as the issue or date that the article was published). For more information, please talk to our staff.
